We are constantly learning through our industry on sustainability, design efficiency and new ways of working; we also strive to keep up to date on the best software and platforms to use across the industry making us highly adaptable to working on collaborative projects.

workplace analysis

Our Workplace Analysis can be applied to most sectors and builds into the Interior Design through engagement with the users and wider community. Steer Design are specialists in workplace and environmental analysis with extensive experience in workplace design. We focus on the study and strategy of bespoke work settings and planning by surveying, analysing and implementing office accommodation alongside supporting agile, flexible and specialist areas. We consult with stakeholder groups across many sectors, creating a confidence in the relationship and demonstrating understanding in user welfare. This process then enables the designing of interiors to support the client’s vision and the office plan using our tried and tested workplace analysis process.

space planning

Space Planning is just that - planning a space. Sounds simple? Not quite. The planning features in every stage of design and construction, briefs develop, challenges are faced, parameters are introduced, regulations are to be adhered to, the building creates variants and just as importantly the planning can make or break the environment and wellbeing of the users. The space planning plays a very important role in any design, there is a science and understanding to it which should only ever be carried out by professionals who are able to put together a plan encompassing all of these factors. The space planning is the basis of your interior design, your fire regulations, your accessibility and your path to a healthy workplace. We are here to make the best space of your plan.

visualisation

With many of our projects, clients love to have visuals represent the design intent usually at concept stage but often through design development to engage more so with their users. Visuals allow clients to see what we, the designers, can see. We understand that it can be hard to trust a bold new scheme and pre-visuals may prefer to ‘play it safe’, this makes visuals essential.

We also offer axos, 360s and walkthroughs, if you’d like to see a project example please get in touch.

Furniture, feature lighting &

Joinery

For a cohesive finish, the furniture and feature lighting specification should be undertaken by the Interior Designer. We have extensive experience of this which provides an insight to the best pieces for budget, sustainability, locality, lead time, quality and more. We have consulted to assist in the tendering stage for government projects, coordinating tenders, order and installation; carry out full specification for direct purchase; and liaising closely with dealers and manufacturers. We also offer Furniture auditing which involves auditing existing furniture of a client’s workspace and grading it for re-use as well as analysing it’s requirement for the new workspace.

Joinery can be a huge focal point and purposeful item to a project. This is integral to the Interior Design and as seen in UKHO becomes part of the architecture. Steer Design has a wealth of expertise on detailing joinery and understanding the build of joinery, much more than just a vision.

styling & wayfinding

It’s easy to let styling the workplace become an afterthought, or never a thought - the build is done, even interiors and wellbeing is fully considered - but what about that finishing touch that really makes it feel like an owned space, a welcoming environment, a talking point and a unique touch to the personality of the company, organisation and it’s users?

We believe that creating a workspace filled with personality and thoughtful details makes for more productive, energized days. Steer Design can specify and detail items from greenery. to books, artwork, accessories to small decor.

For many projects we’ve also coordinated and developed designs for wayfinding around public and non-public spaces to incorporate brands and/or personalities from meeting room names to huge graphics.

sustainability, wellbeing &

inclusivity

Steer Design has always incorporated sustainability. wellbeing and inclusivity principles within our practice, research, development and designs. Future proofing our designs, our client’s wellbeing and planet is a big chunk of our ethos and ultimately part of our purpose.

We work across a range of sustainable values including Social impact, Wellbeing, Energy efficiency, (indoor) Environmental quality, Materials and manufacturing, and Innovation. This is largely based on LEED certification which Mel completed as an Accredited Professional however we also incorporate wider strategies and best practice learnt from BREEAM, WELL and many other sources.

Steer Design are also signed up to UK Interior Design Declares Climate & Biodiversity Emergency and as part of our declaration we will seek to pursue the 12 targets as part of this declaration.

We also continue our own research and professional development across all inclusive methods to design, consider and integrate. It is essential that all physical, mental and neuro-diverse attributes are treated as priority for varying environments - we believe that every person has a unique bucket of needs to fill and we must challenge ourselves to provide the best environments that we can.

teams support

Here at Steer Design we work with clients as consultants; with architects, engineers and contractors as sub consultants. But we also provide support to teams that have periods of very busy workload and either need a precise and guaranteed designer to carry out some work or a particular project; they have a quick influx of work and interim lower level of capability (which cannot always be foreseen); or they need a designer in a particular location for some time away from their office (e.g. a length of time on site). Often, this position will mean working under that company’s brand, as part of their team which has allowed us to develop some very long lasting and significant relationships with medium and large companies. We are able to provide confidence and trust that we can be part of another company, put our passion into their projects and produce work to enable them to continue working without any detriment to their own staff’s workload and mental health and without compromising their client and project needs. We offer a freelance service without the recruitment and with all the trust. If you’re looking for some additional support feel free to get in touch, we can provide you with testimonials that reflects this service.
